Helpful Tips and Variations for a better cooking experience:
Best pasta for this recipe: Penne pasta works best for this recipe, its distinct shape makes it great for sauce scooping. However, conchiglie or orecchiette will do.
Peas: I prefer to use frozen peas with this recipe, they are more accessible and they tend to be firmer and have more flavor, but you can certainly use fresh peas.
Chicken: In this recipe, I used boneless chicken breasts with no skin and I cut them into small pieces, but you can also use tenderloins.
Chicken substitute: You can definitely swap the chicken breasts for beef, salmon, or bacon. You can also skip the protein all together for a meatless meal.
Heavy cream substitute: Use some cream cheese with whole milk.
Add cheese to taste- You can add some parmesan cheese to this dish, cheddar or gruyere will work too. Add the cheese after simmering the heavy cream.
Additional ingredients: You can add some minced garlic (not too much), chopped basil, and other seasonings of your liking.
Storage: Store your penne pasta leftovers in an airtight container and put it in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. You can also freeze your leftovers up to 3 months. Rewarm in a skillet over medium heat or simply reheat in the microwave
